University of Manchester: AI in teaching and learning

Content design for the University of Manchester’s teaching and learning teams, working alongside a human-centred designer, as a four-category policy on AI in assessment came in for 2026/27. The centrepiece is a self-serve web tool: academics name an assessment, decide which AI uses are acceptable, and get wording for the brief that students can actually use. Three rounds of testing with ten staff changed what the tool was for, and that thinking shaped a 53-page testing guide and student guidance alongside it.
